Well what can I say.....
Strapping young lad that spent his youth in the arcades.

Yeah OK....

Well I did spend quite a bit of time in the arcades when I was younger.
My main passion was pinball, which I became rather good at and even hustled a couple of times. My favourite table was "Kings and Queens" I even tried to buy one, but since the film "Tommy" had just been released and that was the table in that, they were very thin on the ground.

I ended up with a Gottlieb "Strange World" which I still have (In pieces in my dads garage)(It's still in the garage)

I became addicted to the fruit machines that were in the arcade and spent a fair few bob over the years, even went down my mums purse a couple of times for money to play them. *Slaps Wrist* That addiction stopped about 20 years ago, I never play them now.

I used to be a drummer in a rock band

I'm rambling......Back to the plot......Focus......

Well one day a "Video Game" was installed in one of my local pubs...."Kings Head" Tooting if anyone's interested. This game just had me fascinated I'd never seen anything like it before and I kept playing it over and over again......must get the high score...must get the high score, which once I had played it to death I normally did.....
Then the following year another one cropped up in a pub near work...Which I loved..and could stay on for hours....Inspite of my mates taunt's
Then another one the year after.....Then another one....Then another one

Buy this time I was hooked....

The games in order were:
Space Invaders
Asteroids
Quasar
Scramble
Track and Field

Then after a while the arcade and pub owners found out that the fruit machines were the bigger earners and they disappeared.....Shit there was a pub in Chelsea that had 5 pinballs...all classics... They were taken out and replaced with one fruit machine....The landlord said that one machine made him more money....

Told ya I ramble a bit.....Just about half way through now.... :)

Well I also got into the home comp market and had in order a :

Atari 2600
Spectrum
C64
Amiga A500
386 PC
Yadda...Yadda...Yadda...

It was whilst playing a PC game that was all graphics and no game play....

[Tangent]......
I had an argument once with one of the Austin Bro's when they introduced graphics into their games.....I said with a text based adventure like Infocoms you could imagine the world and it would be slightly different for everyone who played it, rather than have graphics which showed you what the world was like and was only the graphic designers interpretation of the text anyway. Well looks like I was Way off base on that count....
[/Tangent]

That I wished I could play some of the old C64 games....So I went searching on the net....I found out that I could emulate these old C64 games on my PC....I kept coming across MAME in the searches but ignored it......I downloaded an emulator..Frodo I think it was and then began my search for a game called "Ankh" which I won a prize at when it was released....but never finished....
Well after downloading shitloads and playing all the games I wanted to MAME grabbed my attention, seeing as it had popped up on more than a few occasions.

And that basically is that.......MAME = Life suck.....

Once I found out I could play the ORIGINAL game that was it......

I downloaded it and made a visit to .DK and I was over the moon....

I played around with it for ages and then wanted a proper(ish) control panel so, I built one with a keyboard hack, then I read about TV's being basically the same as Arcade monitors and I had a spare TV around so I went looking for info. This is where Mameworld comes into the picture, I asked a few questions on the old Hardware board and got help from a guy called Codeman67 or sthg.....Long time ago...I connected my PC and CP to the TV using AdvanceMame *Bitch* and all was well.

I then stayed on the forums to help anybody I could with the FE (ArcadeOS) and the port (AdvanceMame) that I was using.....Because I figured that way I would be giving something back to the forums that had helped me....

Then one day I ventured into the Loony Bin.....Fuck me...Baptism of fire...

But I hung around......Eventually become a Mod and I am still there...(Sadly left the forum years ago)

Lots of stories over the years and some great memories.

Well that's that over with.....Believe me I've missed a shitload out, but my fingers ache....
:)
